Metro Train Project in 4 Cities of Bihar | Darbhanga, Muzaffarpur, Bhagalpur & Gaya | Big Update
The Bihar Government is planning to introduce metro train projects in four major cities — Darbhanga, Muzaffarpur, Bhagalpur, and Gaya. This ambitious project aims to improve urban transportation, reduce traffic congestion, and modernize infrastructure in these growing cities.
As per the decision taken in the Bihar Cabinet meeting led by Hon’ble Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, RITES (Rail India Technical and Economic Service) conducted detailed surveys in these cities to assess feasibility and planning requirements.
However, according to the statement from the Jal Shakti Mantri, Government of INDIA, the metro project may face delays. The reason is that these cities currently do not meet the required 25 lakh population norm for metro rail projects.
To address this issue, the Bihar Government is proposing Nagar Nigam expansion in all four cities. For example:
📍 Darbhanga’s town planning area, which is currently around 19 sq km, is proposed to expand to approximately 191 sq km.
📍 Similar expansion plans are being prepared for Muzaffarpur, Bhagalpur, and Gaya.
Once the municipal boundaries are expanded and population norms are met, the metro construction work is expected to begin in these cities.
This project could be a game-changer for Bihar’s urban development and public transport system.
