The front of the human brain, known as the 'prefrontal cortex' occupies a third of the brain, the largest proportion for any animal. We get clues to the importance of the prefrontal cortex from the impact of brain damage, developmental conditions such as Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), the impact of recreational drugs and subsequent drug addiction, the impact of healthy ageing on memory and even the impact of drugs for different forms of cancer that can result in what has become known as 'chemo brain'. This talk will give an overview of this complexity by looking at what researchers and clinicians have found by studying a large spectrum of different groups of participants.
