मानव जीवन अत्यंत दुर्लभ है। इसे मूल्यवान बनाना तभी संभव है, जब हम जीवन के अंतिम लक्ष्य यानी जिसे मोक्ष के नाम से जाना जाता है, को प्राप्त कर लें। लेकिन मन द्वंद्व पैदा करता है। इच्छाएँ और भय ही मन के उतार-चढ़ाव का मूल कारण हैं। यदि मन संसार की ओर जाता है तो बंधन होता है, यदि मन परमात्मा की ओर जाता है तो आत्मा को मोक्ष मिल जाता है। मन के द्वंद्व के कारण सत्य का बोध नहीं होता। सद्गुरु मन को एकाग्र करके अपने अंदर की आत्मा को अनुभव करने की तकनीक बताते हैं। आत्मा के द्वारा आत्मा का अनुभव करना ही मानव जीवन का एकमात्र उद्देश्य है।
