Alaafin, or The Owner of the Palace in Yoruba, is the title of the contemporary Oyo town king and the historical monarch of the Oyo empire. He was in command of the former Oyo Empire, which included states in the south, east, and west before moving north and extending from the present-day Benin Republic to Nigeria. The Yoruba people who spoke the Yoruba language were under his supervision.
