Starting at the Pershore Bridges we walked around the River Avon and through Tiddesley Wood. We stopped for a short break at Besford before walking back into Tiddesley Wood, into Pershore and on to Avon Meadows Community Wetlands before heading home.
Pershore is a delightful village nestled on the banks of the River Avon in Worcestershire, England. Known for its rich history, picturesque setting, and friendly community, Pershore offers a charming and quintessential English village experience.
At the heart of the village lies Pershore Abbey, a magnificent medieval abbey church that dates back to the 11th century. The abbey showcases stunning architecture, including a Norman tower and intricate stained glass windows. It serves as a focal point for community events and religious services, adding to the village's cultural and historical significance.
Pershore's town centre features a bustling market square, where regular markets take place. Here, locals and visitors can browse a range of stalls offering fresh produce, crafts, and local products. The market square is surrounded by independent shops, boutiques, and cafes, creating a vibrant atmosphere and providing a delightful shopping experience.
The village is dotted with historic buildings, including timber-framed houses and the Georgian-era Pershore Town Hall. The narrow streets and charming architecture add to Pershore's character and create a sense of stepping back in time.
The riverside location of Pershore adds to its allure. The River Avon meanders through the village, offering tranquil spots for walks along the riverbank and opportunities for boating and fishing. The Pershore Riverside Centre provides boat trips and water-based activities, allowing visitors to explore the river and its natural surroundings.
Pershore also hosts various cultural and community events throughout the year. The Pershore Plum Festival is a highlight, celebrating the village's historic association with plum growing. The festival features a range of activities, including music, food, craft fairs, and a traditional plum parade.
Surrounded by picturesque countryside and close to the Cotswolds, Pershore offers easy access to scenic landscapes, walking trails, and outdoor activities. The village provides a tranquil retreat from the bustle of city life, while still offering a range of amenities and a vibrant community spirit.
Whether exploring the historic architecture, strolling along the river, or indulging in local produce at the market, Pershore Village offers a delightful escape and a chance to experience the charm of rural England.
