Welcome to Meghalaya – The Abode of Clouds
This is the first episode of my Meghalaya Travel Diaries, where I begin my journey through misty hills, floating clouds, and untouched natural beauty.


Starting from Guwahati, the road to Shillong slowly unfolds into green landscapes and cool mountain air. We experienced the evening view of Umiam Lake. The next morning we started the journey that takes us to the breathtaking Laitlum Canyon, where clouds play hide-and-seek over deep gorges and rolling hills.

From there, we travel to the peaceful Nongjrong village, a hidden gem perched high above the valleys. The highlight of the village is the stunning Nongjrong Viewpoint, offering panoramic views of winding roads, cloud-covered hills, and distant rivers—an experience best felt in silence.

Descending further, we reach the crystal-clear Umngot River, crossing a suspension bridge that adds charm to the journey. The calm flow of the river and the surrounding stillness make this moment truly unforgettable.

We end the day in Shillong with a taste of authentic Khasi cuisine at Rynsan Restaurant, enjoying traditional dishes like Dosiya Kulla and Jastem.

This episode is all about roads, clouds, silence, and freedom—an introduction to Meghalaya through slow travel and real experiences.
