How to Paint a WATERCOLOR Bird of Paradise Flower Using FUN Techniques

Enjoy this new watercolor painting tutorial of a bird of paradise flower. The Strelitzia or Bird of Paradise flower is one of the best known tropical flowers. Native to the subtropical coastal areas of southern Africa, it has been cultivated worldwide and it has been naturalized in North, Central, and South America, as well as in Portugal, where it is the national flower.
The bird of paradise is known as the ultimate symbol of paradise and freedom. Due to its tropical nature, this flower also symbolizes freedom and joy.
I was inspired by the combination of bright orange colours and stark constrast with the deep blue of the flower petals. I chose to paint a more abstract background in light green sprinkling some salt on the wet surface to create some interesting effects.

For this project I have used Winsor and Newton and Vallejo watercolours:
• Cadmium Yellow
• Ochre
• Cadmium Red
• Burnt Sienna
• Burnt Umber
• Coral Red
• Light Green
• Olive Green
• Ultramarine
• Prussian Blue
