Meaning:
It takes a million eyes to witness and fully enjoy the grand and divine procession of Lord Kapaliswara, as he majestically moves through the four streets surrounding the temple. Such is the overwhelming beauty and spiritual grandeur of the event.
He is resplendently decorated with glittering jewels—precious stones including rubies, diamonds, and other Navaratnas (nine gems). His divine form is further adorned with fragrant garlands made of a variety of flowers. The garlands are so beautiful and vivid that they give rise to a sublime illusion—Is this the pink twilight sky with a shining moon and twinkling stars? Or is it a blooming lotus pond? The mind becomes enchanted and overwhelmed trying to understand the visual glory of the Lord. Every aspect of his form—his face, limbs, and ornaments—is pure, blemish less, and radiates compassion and divine grace, which he showers generously upon his devotees.
Lord Vishnu and Lord Brahma themselves worship Lord Kapaliswara, acknowledging his supreme divinity. The Vedas and Agama Sastras—sacred scriptures that guide spiritual practice—praise his greatness, and his teachings and grace extend throughout the heavens and the earth. The Lord blesses his devotees with abundant wealth and spiritual prosperity, and in grateful reverence, they offer heartfelt devotion, watching his grand procession with eyes filled with tears of joy. Joining this divine spectacle are Lord Ganesha (Ganapati), Lord Murugan (Arumugan), Chandeswarar—the loyal guardian—and the Sivaganas, the celestial attendants of Shiva. Also in the divine retinue is Goddess Karpagambikai (Bhavani), the consort of Kapaliswara, who resides in his left half as Ardhanarishvara. She is reverently served by Goddess Lakshmi, the deity of wealth, and Goddess Saraswati, the deity of wisdom and knowledge.
