⭐️The year is 1713, after 13 years of conflict, the War of the Spanish Succession ends with the Treaty of Utrecht. This treaty recognised the French-born Philip V as king of Spain.
⭐️However this treaty also forced Spain to cede territories in Italy and the Spanish Netherlands. But Philip wanted to recover former Spanish territories in Italy and thus they invaded Sicily.
⭐️This action would trigger Austria, the Dutch Republic and the former rivals, Great Britain and France to form an alliance against Spain, starting a 2 year war, know as the War of the Quadruple Alliance.
