Every August, the Gauteng Provincial Legislature (GPL) hosts a Women’s Sector Parliament in commemoration of Women’s Month and to pay tribute to the more than 20 000 women who marched to the Union Buildings on 9 August 1956 in protest against the extension of Pass Laws to women. During Women’s month, our nation celebrates women as active agents of change and social transformation.
In celebration of Women’s Day the Gauteng Provincial Legislature will convene a women’s sectoral parliament to create a platform for participants to raise their frustrations, challenges and propose solutions for implementation by the executive. Furthermore, since its inception, Women’s Parliament has afforded ordinary women, academics, women in business and woman in government an opportunity to air their views and to engage on matters affecting them.
