Overnight on March 11, two oil tankers—the Marshall Islands‑flagged Safesea Vishnu and Malta‑flagged Zefyros—were struck in the Persian Gulf in a suspected Iranian attack. Video footage showed one tanker ablaze with smoke rising into the night sky as crews were rescued. The attacks, reportedly carried out by explosive-laden boats in Iraqi waters, led Iraqi oil ports to halt operations entirely, sending crude oil prices above $100 a barrel and intensifying regional tensions.
