Mazda has refreshed its popular compact 3 for 2024, adding new style packages and an available larger touchscreen while retaining the car's fun-to-drive character. The Mazda 3 continues to stand out in the compact segment with its upscale interior and engaging driving dynamics.

For 2024, Mazda has added new appearance packages such as the Carbon Turbo model, which brings many styling cues from the Carbon Edition to the turbocharged engine. A new Select Sport package also replaces the previous Select trim. These help give buyers more ways to customize the look of their 3.

The biggest news for 2024, however, is the availability of a new 10.25-inch center touchscreen display on higher trim levels. This larger screen adds more modern tech and brings wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functionality. Lower trims still come standard with an 8.8-inch display and Mazda's rotary controller. Some may find that small screen a bit outdated, so the larger touchscreen option is a welcome addition.

Under the hood, the 3 carries over its 2.5-liter naturally aspirated four-cylinder that makes 186 horsepower along with an available turbocharged 2.5-liter engine making 250 horsepower. The turbo engine delivers swift acceleration and is paired with all-wheel drive, while the base engine offers a pleasing amount of pep while maximizing fuel economy.

Around town and on back roads, the Mazda 3 impresses with its sharp steering and nimble handling. It's one of the most engaging cars in the class, encouraging you to drive it in a spirited manner. The ride is on the firm side but nicely dampens impacts. The manual transmission is sadly restricted to the base engine, however.

Inside, the Mazda 3 punches above its weight with upscale materials and a straightforward control layout focused on the driver. The front seats are highly adjustable and provide all-day comfort. Taller adults may find back seat space a little tight, however. Cargo room is about average for the segment.

Overall, the 2024 Mazda 3 remains one of the most enjoyable-to-drive compact cars, with a premium interior vibe and new upgrades such as the larger touchscreen. It continues to be a strong competitor in the shrinking compact segment. Shoppers would be wise to take a test drive to experience its satisfying performance and refinement.
