St. Louis Sheriff Alfred Montgomery faces federal indictment

Описание: St. Louis Sheriff Alfred Montgomery has been put under house arrest as he faces new federal charges on Thursday.

Federal officials unsealed a new indictment against Montgomery, alleging he tampered with and retaliated against witnesses in an investigation related to the handcuffing of City Justice Center Deputy Commissioner Tammy Ross. Montgomery was previously indicted in August on a federal misdemeanor count of deprivation of rights under color of law.

Prosecutors allegedly obtained a recorded phone call where Montgomery admitted to demoting a lieutenant because he believed the lieutenant was involved in the investigation. On a separate call, Montgomery threatened to fire other sheriff's office employees who spoke to the FBI.

"(The employees) have been playing (expletive) games since day one," Montgomery allegedly said on the recorded call. "They are the ones who have been telling the feds all types of (expletive) ... We got it on record, the depositions. Their statements to the FBI, all the (expletive) they've been telling them people ... It's been the mother (expletive) the whole (expletive) time ... I'm sick of this (expletive) and I'm sick of these snake (expletive) ... They gotta go ... They definitely gotta go ... I don't have to take this (expletive), I'm the (expletive) sheriff. I say it's either done or it ain't. I don't have to tolerate this (expletive). You work for the pleasure of me. I brought you in this mother (expletive). I will move you up out this mother (expletive)."

A hearing for Montgomery is scheduled for Tuesday, when more evidence is expected to be released.
