In this video we examine the X-Ray chassis system developed by the Kinetic Research Group. KRG is very popular throughout the long range shooting community for the Bolt Lift product. This product attaches to the standard Remington 700 bolt knob to make it much larger.
The X-Ray chassis is very similar to it's larger counterpart the Whiskey III. It features many of the same advantages of the Whiskey III, but is roughly a pound lighter and significantly cheaper. The Xray features: an adjustable recoil pad, an adjustable support hand knob, large trigger guard opening, an ambidextrous magazine release, an ambi thumb shelf, and a completely customizable fore end that slides off. The Xray chassis is a medium weight, plastic stock that would be an ideal choice for both bench rest shooters and hunters.
Although I really like the stock, there are a few areas that I would like to see improved. The magazine release is too short for anyone with small hands to use without having to break their grip. The chassis also gets in the way of the simple ergonomics of the safety found on the Remington 700. Finally, the stock does not fold into the chassis system. This would have made the system a perfect fit for my needs.
Overall the X-Ray Chassis by KRG is a great product. It delivers the customization of a chassis system for the price of a stock. It is user friendly. It is also light enough to be carried on a hike. I would recommend this product to anyone looking to improve their long range rifle system.
