নগরউখড়ার উৎসমূলের সন্ধান উত্তর ২৪ পরগণা সন্নিহিত নদিয়া জেলার হরিণঘাটা থানার অন্যতম সমৃদ্ধ জনপদ নগরউখড়া । এই গ্রামের সমৃদ্ধি প্রকৃতপক্ষে শুরু হয়েছে দেশ বিভাগের পর থেকে । এই সমৃদ্ধির কৃতিত্ব ওপার বাংলা থেকে আগত মানুষদের । তাঁরাই স্থানীয় মানুষদের সাথে মিলেমিশে একটি মিশ্র সংস্কৃতির জন্ম দিয়েছেন । রাস্তাঘাট , বাজার , ব্যবসা , শিক্ষা , সংস্কৃতি ও নানা বিষয়ে দ্রুত উন্নয়নশীল গ্রামটি অদূর ভবিষ্যতে অবশ্যই শহরের মর্যাদা পাবে । আকবর বাদশাহের বিখ্যাত সভাসদ আবুল ফজল কৃত ‘ আইন ই - আকবরী ( ১৫৯৬ খ্রিষ্টাব্দ ) গ্রন্থে অনেক পরগণার উল্লেখ আছে । এর একটি ‘ উখড়া ’ বা ‘ ওকড়া ’ । এই উখড়া নামে অস্ট্রিক ও দ্রাবিড় ভাষার অস্পষ্ট ছাপ আছে । ড . সুধীরকুমার করণের মতে ড়া - প্রত্যয়ান্ত স্থান নামে অস্ট্রিক প্রভাব আছে । ( দ্র.- নদীয়া স্থাননাম- মোহিত রায় , পৃষ্ঠা ১৬৪ , ১৬৫ ) । ভারতবর্ষে যিনি প্রথম নদী জরীপ করেন ( ১৭৬৪-১৭৭২ ) সেই জেমস্ রেনেল স্থানটির উল্লেখ করেছেন ‘ Aukerah ' রূপে । অষ্টাদশ শতকের গোড়ার দিকে মুর্শিদকুলী খাঁন উখড়া বা ওকড়া পরগণার জমিদারির দায়িত্ব ভবানন্দ মজুমদারের বংশধর রঘুরাম নামক এক ব্রাহ্মণকে অর্পন করেন । উখড়া তখন আয়তনে বেশ বড় পরগণা ছিল । হান্টারের বিবরণ থেকে জানা যায় উখড়া পরগণার আয়তন ছিল ৩৪,০০০ একর বা ৫৩.১২ বর্গ মাইল । বর্তমানে এই পরগণার কিছু অংশ পড়েছে উত্তর ২৪ পরগণাতে ও বাকি অংশ নদিয়া জেলাতে । নদিয়া জেলায় উখড়া পরগণার যে অংশ পড়েছে /
The prosperity of this village has actually started since the partition of the country. The credit for this prosperity goes to the people who came from other parts of Bengal. They have given birth to a mixed culture with the local people. The fast developing village in terms of roads, markets, business, education, culture and so on will definitely get the status of a city in the near future. Ain e-Akbari (1596 AD) by Abul Fazl, the famous courtier of King Akbar, mentions many parganas. One of them is ‘Ukhra’ or ‘Okra’. The name Ukhra has a vague imprint of the Austronesian and Dravidian languages. Dr. According to Sudhir Kumar Karan, there is an Austronesian influence called Ra-certified place. (Dr. Nadia place name - Mohit Roy, pages 174, 185). James Rennell, who conducted the first river survey in India (174-182), referred to the place as ‘Aukerah’. In the early eighteenth century, Murshid Quli Khan entrusted the zamindari of Ukhra or Okra Pargana to a Brahmin named Raghuram, a descendant of Bhavananda Majumdar. Ukhra was then a large pargana in size. According to Hunter, the area of ​​Ukhra Parganas was 34,000 acres or 53.12 square miles. At present some parts of this pargana fall in North 24 Parganas and the rest in Nadia district. The part of Ukhra Pargana in Nadia district is known as Nagar Ukhra. (Dr.- Nagarukhara in history- Professor Gaurishankar Dey). In ancient times, the center of Ukhra Pargana was Nagar Ukhra. (Dr. Nadia's place name - Mohit Roy, pages 46, 49). Books, local elders and their descendants are known to be two in the former village.
কাছারি বাড়ি ছিল । একটি ছিল সুন্দরবন এলাকার বোনাগাতি এস্টেটের দীঘাপতি জমিদারের , অন্যটি সাতক্ষীরার জমিদারদের । প্রসঙ্গত জানানো যায় বাংলায় বারো ভুঁইয়াদের পতনের পর মোগল অনুগ্রহে অষ্টাদশ শতাব্দীর দ্বিতীয়ার্ধে এইসব জমিদারির পত্তন হয় । উখড়া মৌজার ‘ উখড়া ’ কথাটির পূর্বে নগর কথাটি কবে যুক্ত হয়েছে সঠিকভাবে তা জানা যায়নি । সম্ভবত গ্রামের উত্তর পাশ দিয়ে বয়ে যাওয়া যমুনা নদীর তীরে জমজমাট গঞ্জ বা নগর হিসাবে এটি গড়ে উঠেছিল । সেজন্য ‘ নগরউ খড়া ’ নামের উৎপত্তি । প্রাচীন তথ্যে আরও জানা যাচ্ছে হরিণঘাটা তথা নগরউখড়া বারো ভুঁইয়ার অন্যতম প্রতাপাদিত্যের যশোর রাজ্যের অন্তর্ভুক্ত Stel Cate STARTERLY MANCE নদিয়া সহ নীলচাষের জেলাগুলি ( ১৮৬০ ) ‘ স্বাধীনতা সংগ্রামে নদীয়া ' গ্রন্থ থেকে ছবিটি প্রাপ্ত । ছিল । এই অঞ্চলটি একদা নীলচাষের কুখ্যাত ঘাঁটি ছিল । গ্রামের নিকটেই হাড়িপুকুরিয়া ও সাতবেড়িয়াতেও নীলকুঠি ছিল । তথ্যানুসন্ধানীদের জন্য জানাই ১৭৭৪ খ্রিষ্টাব্দে লুই বোনড নামে একজন ফরাসী যুবক বাংলায় প্রথম নীলচাষ শুরু করেন । ১৭৭৫ খ্রিষ্টাব্দে ক্যারল ব্লুম নামে এক ইংরেজ প্রথম নীলকুঠি স্থাপন করেন । ( দ্র.- নদীয়া উনিশ শতক , মোহিত রায় , পৃ.- ২৩৪ ) সকলের অবগতির জন্য জানাই ১৯৪৭ সালের ১৫ আগস্ট , শুক্রবার ভারত স্বাধীন হলেও নদিয়ার অনেক অংশের মতো এই স্থানও পাকিস্তানের অন্তর্ভুক্ত ছিল । ১৯৪৭ সালের ১৮ আগস্ট , সোমবার এই অঞ্চলের প্রকৃত স্বাধীনতা লাভ হয় ।

It is also known from ancient sources that the picture was obtained from the book 'Strate Cate Starterly MANCE Nadia' (180) in the Jessore state .
