Alors que les grands défis écologiques de l’Anthropocène nous obligent à repenser nos liens avec les écosystèmes, cette question d’importance majeure est encore peu traitée par le design. Pourtant, cette discipline est amenée à jouer un rôle central dans la reconfiguration de nos relations avec les vivants non humains. Cette journée d’étude entend donner la parole à des designers qui prennent précisément en compte les autres espèces et leurs perspectives dans leurs pratiques. Si le vivant est depuis longtemps un objet de design, il s’agira de comprendre ce que peut signifier, concrètement, un design qui opère non pas seulement sur ou dans le vivant, mais aussi, désormais, avec le vivant.

Clara Mancini is the leader of Animal-Computer Interaction (ACI) and head of the dedicated lab at The Open University. She details here various co-design projects with dogs and explains some ethical principles for interspecies interactions.

While the great ecological challenges of the Anthropocene oblige us to rethink our links with the ecosystems, this question of major importance is rarely addressed by design. However, this discipline is bound to play a central role in the reconfiguration of our relationships with non-human living beings. This seminar day intends to give the floor to designers who specifically take into account other species and their perspectives in their practices. If the living has long been an object of design, here it will be a matter of understanding what can mean, in concrete terms, a design that operates not only on or in the living, but also, from now on, with the living.
