It's worth mentioning that we traveled to Rhodes about a week after the Rhodes fires were extinguished. In our conversations with locals, they were eager for tourists to continue to come because the economy depends on travel and from what we learned the fires were of course serious, but fortunately left most of the island (especially the touristic parts intact). All that is to say, you're safe to travel to Rhodes.
