Be a part of something bigger than yourself.

When asked to list things that make life meaningful, one common response is ‘to be a
part of something bigger than myself’. This is a profoundly astute answer, as to live
only for oneself means no one will miss you when you’re gone. Your life will have
amounted to nothing. Yet if one lives for others, those others will miss you when you
leave this world.
Even better than this is being a part of something even bigger than your local area of
influence. The reason being if you played a part in something huge, then countless
people will miss you when you’re gone. Last Monday night, about 30 of our church
members got the opportunity to be a part of something bigger than just themselves
at our very first monthly prayer meeting.
On Vision Sunday, we learnt that Earlwood Anglican ticks almost every box a healthy
church needs (Acts 2:42-47). Two of those things are personal, such as (i) devoted to
the apostle’s teaching, and (ii) filled with joy. Two are living to serve those in our
community, such as (iii) fellowship and (iv) breaking of bread. The remaining two are
an opportunity to really live for something bigger than ourselves. Those being (v outward-focusedd fellowship and (vi) devoted to prayer.
Our monthly prayer meetings are a way for our church to be a part of God’s worldwide
mission to grow his kingdom. So if you would like to be a part of something bigger
than yourself, can I encourage you to give up 90 minutes on the 4th Monday of next
month, and come and help change the world?
