On 18 May 2017, it was announced to great shock in the horse racing community that Alan Swinbank had passed away at the age of 72. The respected dual-purpose trainer had tasted success at the highest level in the Irish St Leger, Canadian International and Hong Kong Vase. Rest in peace, Alan.
