1. We saw Bangkok, Krabi, Koh Samui, and Phuket. But the real Thailand is in lesser-known cities. Fewer crowds. Better experiences.
2. Get an International Driving Permit (IDP). Renting bikes is cheaper than cabs. And sometimes cabs are not available.
3. Plan your own itinerary. Know the map. Know the locations. It saves time and confusion.
4. Book activities from local outlets. Negotiate. It’s much cheaper than apps like KLOOK.
5. For trains, buses, and ferries, use the 12GO app. It’s cheaper than hotels or offline agents.
6. Travel during off-season if you can. Fewer people. Better prices.
7. Domestic flights in Thailand allow only 7 kg cabin baggage. Check-in luggage costs extra. Prices change by season.
8. Always check your luggage tag at the airport belt.
9. Thailand is hot when India is in winter. Pack light clothes.
10. You might try exotic food at first. But you’ll eventually look for Indian food.
11. Carry basic medicines from India: fever, stomach issues, acidity.
12. Use 7-Eleven for daily essentials. It’s cheap and everywhere.
13. I carried cash instead of cards. Card payments add extra charges at the time of transaction. I kept a Niyo card only as backup.
14. Exchange money at local exchange shops. Avoid airport, hotel, or online exchanges.
15. Hotel check-in is usually 2 PM. They take a 1000 baht deposit and may deduct 500 baht for late checkout.
