Repairing a soccer ball's bladder: 2:33
With most official match balls from Adidas or Nike (like a Jabulani, Brazuca, Europass, Telstar 18, Beau Jeu or Strike V) the valve will wear out eventually. As the tutorial shows you can actually pull it right out of the ball and insert a brand new one to prevent it leaking air. I used pliers to remove the old valve, but if you're using a crochet hook you'll need to do the following:
1. Get a 6.5mm metal crochet hook.
2. Push it through the valve until it's all the way through.
3. Angle it slightly and pull. You might need a rubber glove to maintain grip.
4. Insert a new valve as shown in this video.
Official match balls can also break as their bladder degrades and they start leaking air (which happened to both of my Adidas Speedcells). To fix this, simply insert some bike tyre sealant (Stan's Notubes works well) into the ball through the valve. Wait for it to dry for a day or so and your ball should be good as new.
The only issue these methods won't fix is a massive tear in your ball, as bike tyre sealant will only patch small holes. I haven't had this happen to me, so I'm not sure what the best way to fix it is. However, there are a few other guides on YouTube that detail how to patch a larger hole.
