Angola is one of India’s key suppliers of oil, accounting for nearly 80 percent of bilateral trade. As India remains one of the world’s fastest-growing energy markets, securing stable long-term fuel sources is a strategic priority. During the visit, India extended a $200 million Line of Credit to help modernise Angola’s defence sector — part of a broader pattern of expanding India’s role in African security cooperation.

Critical minerals were a major highlight of the closed-door discussions. With global technology — from EV batteries to semiconductors — dependent on rare earth minerals, and China dominating the supply chain, India is now seeking reliable alternative partners. Angola, with underexplored reserves, fits directly into India’s National Critical Minerals Mission.

Beyond this, both sides explored cooperation in diamonds, refining, fertilisers, skill development, rail modernisation, and advanced technology sectors. The visit strengthens India’s strategic footprint in Africa at a time when global influence in the continent is being reshaped by China, the US, and Europe.
