18-Year-Old with Fake ID Arrested for OVI After Hitting Three Parked Cars

Описание: MAUMEE, OH - On April 17th, 2022 at 2:29AM, patrol officers with the Maumee Police Department responded to a property damage accident on W. Dudley Street. Upon arrival, the officer began identifying the passengers who were in the vehicle that had caused the accident and those who owned the cars that were struck. The suspect claimed that she had moved too far over when another car was heading in the opposite direction.

The officer noted that when speaking with the suspect, she had red and watery eyes, spoke with slurred speech, and an odor of an alcoholic beverage could be smelled from her person. When asked how much in the night the suspect had to drink, she claimed that she did not drink and had only picked her friends up from a local establishment that served alcohol. After obtaining necessary information from the suspect, the officer began to perform a field sobriety test (FST) on her.

During the horizontal gaze nystagmus (HGN) test, the officer observed the suspect to have distinct and sustained nystagmus at maximum deviation and onset prior to 45 degrees in both eyes. No vertical gaze nystagmus was observed. During the instructional phase of the walk-and-turn test, the suspect was unable to maintain the heel-to-toe starting position and had to be reminded to get back into the starting position. During the test, she stepped off line, failed to walk heel-to-toe, and stopped prior to turning to ask questions about the test. The suspect also put her foot down, swayed while balancing, and raised her arms for balance while performing the one leg stand test.

At the end of the FST, the officer arrested the suspect for operating a vehicle under the influence, or OVI. In the search of the suspect, a fake ID card was found by the back-up officer. She was later taken to the Maumee Police Department where the same officer discovered that the suspect had taken the fake ID away from the officers and had given them a different ID card. The suspect would later be charged with felony tampering with evidence.
