This video demonstrates the creation of an externally triggered but nonetheless -- software based -- emergency stop routine using one of the Arduino's hardware based interrupt pins, some code, and a few external components.
The circuitry and code discussed in this tutorial will enable one to "halt" or "stop" whatever his/her Arduino happens to be doing until its reset button is pressed. Essentially, it provides one with the ability to externally "stop" or "halt" void loop in its tracks until the Arduino's reset button is pressed.
CAUTION/DISCLAIMER:
Because this is a software-based "emergency stop" it should never be used as a fail safe for potentially dangerous projects i.e., those involving automobiles, medical devices, industrial equipment, battlebots, etc. An actual emergency-stop-power-disconnect-button i.e., a "hard" emergency stop setup (or equivalent sort of circuitry), should be used for those types of projects.
