Vlog #50 lands on Valentine’s Day with a busy, beautiful hike through Harmon Canyon after recent rains. The parking lot is packed, the creek is flowing again, and the trails are alive with hikers, bikers, mud, and fresh green growth. I check out the stream crossings, spot clear deer tracks, and take in the recovering hillsides still marked by the scars of the Thomas Fire — and the impressive regrowth since.
Along the way I share a bit of our family Valentine’s traditions (including the red-and-pink dinner theme and desserts from Trader Joe's), give an update on my daughter’s next steps in pilot training with "cross-country" flights out of Santa Paula, and talk about how the recent storms have changed the canyon’s water flow and trail conditions.
We also pass signage and maps maintained by the Ventura Land Trust, check out erosion zones and oak recovery, and run into plenty of trail traffic enjoying the warm, post-rain weather. A longer, more exploratory canyon walk with nature, family updates, and a little Valentine’s Day reality mixed in.
