Описание: A leader in contemporary architecture practice, globally renowned Kulapat Yantrasast (founder of WHY Architecture) views museums as spaces for community-building. He leads with an empathic approach to shaping public spaces in the art and architecture worlds. Through his lecture, Yantrasast draws us in to his distinct approach to “acupuncture architecture” and his means for building adaptive structures in the 21st century. Following Yantrasast’s presentation, there will be a short dialogue moderated by Maija García, the new director of the Capri Theater.

Bios
Kulapat Yantrasast (b. 1968 in Bangkok, Thailand) is an architect and designer. Based in Los Angeles and renowned for his groundbreaking architectural design methodology, Yantrasast is a founding partner and Creative Director of WHY Architecture, a multidisciplinary design practice with a global footprint. With a distinct focus on art spaces, WHY is behind notable projects including the renovation, redesign, and reconfiguration of the Michael C. Rockefeller Wing at The Met, the renovation of the Northwest Coast Hall at the American Museum of Natural History in New York, and a renovation and addition to the Asian Art Museum in San Francisco. In 2007 Yantrasast led the design for the Grand Rapids Art Museum, the first art museum building in the world to receive the LEED Gold certification for environmentally sustainable design.

Maija García is a theater director, cultural innovator, and advocate for equity in the arts. She most recently directed I Am Betty, a world premiere hit musical at the History Theater, and developed the bilingual cineplay OUR HOOD with John Leguizamo. Director of Movement for Spike Lee’s Oscar award-winning Blackkklansman, CHI-RAQ, and She’s Gotta Have It on Netflix, García’s work in film extends to documentaries as Executive Producer of the Art of Dance, Choreographer, then Creative Director of FELA!, the Tony Award winning Broadway musical by Bill T. Jones. García has led dozens of productions in major venues across the US as well as in Europe, Africa, and the Caribbean. Committed to elevating original work at the intersection of theater, music, dance, film, and television, she founded the Harlem-based cultural arts organization Organic Magnetics to generate urban folklore for the future. Former Director of Education and Professional Training at the Guthrie Theater, García has just taken on a new role as Director of the Capri Theater in North Minneapolis.
