This is the 2nd part of our journey by train to Istanbul as part of a tour by Great Rail Journeys.
We decided to make our own way home by train from Istanbul when the rest of the party flew home and some of the footage is taken from then.
The video begins in Budapest heading east on the Danube Express and takes us through Hungary, Romania (Brasov) Bulgaria (Kazanlak) and on to Istanbul.
There's also footage of the old trams in Taksim Square, Istanbul.
From there we headed home through Bulgaria (overnight) and into Romania (crossing the Danube) where we stayed overnight in Bucharest.
Then we travelled overnight via Budapest, took the Railjet high speed train through Austria to Munich, and then overnight sleeper to Paris. From there Eurostar to St Pancras & Virgin Pendolino to Liverpool.
For details of how to do this trip (and others like it) you can't go wrong by looking at the Man in Seat61 website. We met a young American lad who'd been working in Saudi Arabia who had the same internet sheets as we did from the site. It's universal.
