The transition to an affordable, reliable, and secure energy system requires more than just generating renewable power—it demands innovative storage solutions. Thermal energy storage (TES) is emerging as a critical component of long duration energy storage (LDES), capturing renewable energy and delivering it as heat, steam, or cooling for industries like food and beverage production, chemical manufacturing, and district heating.
This technology is already making an impact, with over 40 commercial thermal energy storage plants worldwide. Research shows that for every 1 MW of TES deployed, an additional 1.5 MW of renewable energy can be integrated into the grid, making TES a key enabler of the clean energy transition.
