I understand why Oba Yozo feels so complex. Being human isn’t simple, and morality rarely fits into neat categories. People aren’t purely good or purely bad; most of us exist somewhere in between. That’s what makes No Longer Human so unsettling. It doesn’t offer clear heroes or villains. Instead, it sits in that uncomfortable space, where damage, cruelty, and vulnerability all overlap. The story lives in that narrow, morally ambiguous space and refuses to give us the comfort of clear judgment. This is just about my own personal experience reading the book 📖
