There’s a river running through Leicester that most people barely notice.
Braunstone Brook flows into the River Soar near the city centre, but by the time it gets there, it’s already been redirected, narrowed, and forced underground as the city grew around it.
In this film, I follow the brook on foot in reverse, starting where it meets the Soar and tracing it back through parks, housing estates, culverts, and green space to its quiet source.
This isn’t just a walk along a stream.
It’s an exploration of how cities reshape natural systems, and how those systems continue to shape the city in return.
Braunstone Brook may look small, but it has influenced boundaries, roads, and development patterns across Leicester for decades.
Once you know it’s there, you start seeing the city differently.
