How can the AIDS epidemic help us to navigate the COVID-19 crisis?
What can we do to support the communities that were most effected by the crisis of the 1980s – 1990s, now confronted with today’s epidemic?
Join activist artists Joseph Cotgrave and John Hanning in conversation, as they explore how understanding the AIDS crisis might better equip us to deal with the social effects of COVID-19.
This is a FREE event but we strong encourage donations to Sahir House: https://sahir.org.uk/donate/
Joseph Cotgrave is a Liverpool-based visual artist and activist. His practice explores personal narratives as a young gay man living with HIV. He engages with audiences to create meaningful conversation surrounding issues relating to the virus. His practice aims to highlight and subsequently reduce the stigma that exists for people living with HIV, particularly amongst at-risk groups.
John Hanning is a visual and literary artist. He lives and works in Brooklyn, NY, where he creates collages, large scale installations, books, and paintings. His work explores themes of anxiety, surveillance, paranoia, the bankrupt morality of religion, commentary of American values, the LGBTQ and AIDS movements.
Questions can be submitted to Joe in advance via [email protected] plus there will be chance for additional questions during the livestream.
This event is in collaboration with Sahir House, Merseyside’s HIV support, prevention, information and training centre. Please donate here: https://sahir.org.uk/donate/
