Can allergies cause chest congestion? Absolutely. I'm Dr. Manan Shah, I am an ENT and allergist here at Wyndly. When you have bad allergies, what's happening is, things are getting into your nose and irritating your nasal passageways. What then happens is some of the mucus will drip down the back of your throat and it can cause chest congestion, chest colds, and irritation.
If you have bad allergies, the easiest thing you can do is start by using a salt water rinse, which can just rinse out some of the allergens from your nose. You can also take nasal topical steroids like Flonase or Nasonex and then you can also use antihistamines. If these things aren't working or if you're having constant allergies, you should work with an allergist to think about doing immunotherapy. If you'd like to learn more, please subscribe.
