One of the Frick’s most recent acquisitions is View of Dieppe Harbor, a splendid watercolor and graphite drawing by Antoine Vollon, featured in this summer’s presentation Landscape Drawings in The Frick Collection. Tabler, the preeminent scholar of Vollon and the donor of the work, discusses little-known aspects of the career of the nineteenth-century artist, a still-life specialist who had a passion for landscape.
Dr. Carol Tabler has taught courses in European and American nineteenth-century art at Long Island University for nearly thirty years. She has curated exhibitions on French nineteenth-century art and is currently preparing L'Amour du Beau, an exhibition of French nineteenth-century paintings and drawings from her own collection that will be presented at the Steinberg Museum of Art at Hillwood on the Post Campus of Long Island University from February 1 to April 2, 2016. Dr. Tabler wrote her dissertation on the landscapes of Antoine Vollon at the Institute of Fine Arts, New York University, and has published several articles on this little-known artist.
This lecture was recorded Wednesday, June 17, 2015 at The Frick Collection, New York
