Exploring the new frontiers of technology undeniably has reshaped the world we live in. Mr. Rohit Dey, opines that Technology is the game changer and innovation is its catalyst. Drones once an aerial marvel now stand out as a testament for the unique technological advancements and limitless human creativity. He illustrates the farmer using a drone to assess crop health or deploying drones to deliver life-saving supplies to remote or disaster-stricken areas which was not possible before. He says that the future is all about ‘Out of Box Thinking’ which simply is a synergy between technology and creativity to unlock infinite realms of innovation that maybe a far dream today. He also points out that he has had the privilege of working with NASA, advising the Indian Army and collaborating on projects that showcase the immense potential of UAV technology only because of thinking and challenging the mindset that tries to do away with the unexpected. From precision agriculture and aerial photography to disaster management and medical supply delivery, drones symbolize how far creativity and technology can take us. He concludes his talk by letting the audience know that technology should not be viewed merely as a tool but as an extension of one’s imaginations to inspire, empower and transform the impossible into reality. Rohit Dey is a young scientist from Bengaluru, associated to National Aerospace Laboratories (NAL) as a drone test pilot. An aero enthusiast from a young age, Rohit Dey has been studying and building drones from scrap materials for close to a decade and has already captured the interest of some high-profile companies including NASA.
At the age of 5, Rohit built his first quadcopter, an unmanned helicopter with four rotors and at 15, he had designed and manufactured 10 such vehicles, all voice controllable with GPS receptivity. His design won him the “The Young Scientist India – 2015,” & a trip to the US to visit the NASA centre, where he got to be a co-pilot for the day. He built remote-controlled drones that weighed 650gms, costed ₹8,000 that used rechargeable lithium battery & be on air for 20 minutes, with a hope to assist in disaster response. He’s an avid researcher and always aspires to serve the country with his expertise in aerodynamics. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
