For the Kon-Tiki expedition in 1947, Thor Heyerdahl managed to procure a limited number of 16mm color film rolls, in addition to the black-and-white film used during most of the voyage.
Unfortunately, most of the color film rolls were stolen before the expedition began.
The recordings presented here are therefore the only known surviving color film footage from the historic Kon-Tiki voyage across the Pacific Ocean.
