Cost per wear is a principle which can be applied when purchasing new clothing items. The concept is based on the price of the item divided by the number of times you would wear it - this calculates its CPW. Your aim when shopping should be to have a low CPW which means you get better value for your money
Example:
Alex bought some sunglasses for NZ$60. If he wore them 45 times, their CPW would be 1.33.
Ngahuia bought her sunglasses for NZ$400 two years ago. Say she wore them 320 times, they would have a CPW of 1.25.
It only cost Ngahuia NZ$1.25 each time she wore her sunglasses whilst it cost Alex NZ$1.33 each time he wore his.
When purchasing new items you should aim for a low CPW to maximize the value you get from the amount of money you spend. However, there are other important factors you need to consider along with a low CPW.
