Doulas are not just there for the birthing person, they're also there as a support for the partner. A common misconception about doula work is that they're just a breath coach, but their work is much more than that. They can be a birth advocate and advocate for you in the hospital or birth center. They can also support you during a c-section, which is a major surgery and can still be a beautiful experience with the right support.

Doulas can support you wherever you decide to have your baby, whether that's at home, a birth center, or a hospital. It's recommended to start looking for a doula at the end of the second trimester or very beginning of the third trimester, but reaching out earlier increases your chances of being matched with someone who fits your preferences.

The cost of a doula can vary based on factors such as insurance, but doulas are often more affordable than people think. If you’re a Medicaid member (also called Medical Assistance) or MinnesotaCare insurance through HealthPartners, call 866- 885 -8880 (TTY 711) to begin your no-cost doula process. You can also call member services to be connected with a doula organization like Everyday Miracles.
