MISSION BRIEF — VIPER 5 (4-Ship)
Package #: 1713 Task: SEAD (Suppression of Enemy Air Defenses)
Target: Kalma Airport
TOT: 02:32 Z
Takeoff: 02:01 Z
Lead: Viper 51
Departure / Recovery: Kunsan AB
Divert / Alternate: Kimpo
SITUATION
Friendly forces are conducting shaping operations in the area. Enemy fixed SAM sites (SA-2, SA-5) are known to be operating in and around the target. Expect MiG-23 CAP in the vicinity of Kalma. VIPER 5 is tasked to suppress and degrade enemy air defenses to allow follow-on freedom of maneuver.
TASK / EXECUTION
Task: Destroy/suppress SAM threat around Kalma Airport and hold airspace clear for follow-on elements.
Formation: 4-ship (Viper 51 lead, Viper 52/53/54 wingmen).
Ingress: Use briefed routing into the target corridor; push per planner timing to arrive at TOT.
Weapons Employment: HARM primary against known emitters; AIM-120s for defending fighters.
Egress / Recovery: RTB Kunsan or divert Kimpo as required.
ORDNANCE (ALL A/C — VIPER 5, 4-SHIP)
4 × AIM-120D (air superiority)
2 × AGM-88 HARM (anti-radiation — primary SEAD weapon)
2 × 600-gal fuel tanks
1 × AN/ALQ-184 ECM pod
1 × SNIPER TGP
1 × AN/ASQ-213 HITS
THREATS
Surface-to-Air: SA-2 and SA-5 sites expected in the target area — treat launchers as high-value, high-lethality threats.
Air-to-Air: MiG-23 CAP likely to vector into the package on ingress/egress. Prioritize HARM employment on emitters then engage A/A as required.
WEATHER / OPERATING CONDITIONS
Weather: Poor for departure, target, and recovery. Expect degraded visibility and low ceilings — plan navigation and sensor employment accordingly.
RULES / NOTES
PID before engagement where tactically feasible. HARM on known emitters; use Sniper TGP for visual identification of high-value SAM infrastructure when required.
Maintain mutual support within the 4-ship. Deconflict employment of A/A missiles during package engagements.
AWACS / package comms: use the briefed plan (monitor guard and package net).
CSAR: follow standard rescue procedures if forced-down inside the AO. Divert to Kimpo only if Kunsan recovery is no longer viable.
Mission recorded in Falcon BMS 4.38
