In Episode 1 of Excel Outdoors, I’m stepping away from the spreadsheets and onto the frozen surface of Vee Lake. It’s –35°C (–31°F), and this is my first-ever solo winter camping expedition.
I’ve lived in the Arctic for ten years, but being alone on the ice is a different beast. I spent weeks planning every detail in Excel, but the moment the cold hit, my "perfect" system started to shatter. From brittle tent poles to the struggle of lighting a stove with frozen hands, this trip was a massive wake-up call.
