Hi Everyone! Dr. Bartlett here, there and everywhere and perhaps nowhere!


I learned late last night that a friend of mine, has died. I don’t even know if I can call him a friend; we haven’t been in touch for 40 years. He was the best guitar player I ever worked with. He was two years younger than me.


I was in one of the best bands ever, for me, between age 19-23 and I have very many memories of that time. It’s a bit shocking when someone you haven’t had a lot of contact with dies. It makes you think about how ephemeral, how changing, how fleeting everything is.


I got fired from that band (no, I won’t tell you why) and that felt like a terrible, terrible tragedy at the time. In fact, that’s what led me to go to pre-med, chiropractic school and naturopathic school, which led me here.


You never know how life is going to show up for you. It’s not always all good and it certainly isn’t all bad. Let go of the discussion around all bad, right & wrong. Not the moral discussions. I mean the discussions about how you feel about things when you feel put upon, when you feel as though things are not going well for you and that God is conspiring against you.


Let go of all of that. Realize that the flow of the universe is always perfect grace.


There is always the narrative. We have our human narrative and then there’s the dying narrative. There’s the underlying texture of the universe. You are a part of that.


The universe itself is a concept. It doesn’t’ really exist. Can you imagine what you might perceive if you couldn’t see, hear, taste, smell or feel anything? How would you know what was the outside world? How would you know what it consisted of? That’s what happens sometimes for me when I go deep in meditation. The world stops existing.


Apparently, in an awakening you realize there really is nothing. It’s all background. It’s all like CGI – computer generated imagery.


If that’s what it is, then, to quote the Joker, “Why so serious?”
