Episode 90: Sana ALL

A lot of us Pinoys living abroad see how in places with strong social-welfare systems, basic needs like health care feel like a given, not a luxury. In several countries, health care is funded by taxes and available to everyone — rich or poor — so you don’t end up worrying “What if I get sick and can’t afford treatment.”

We also notice how in many of those countries, the government plays a central role in making sure services — health, social support, even education and welfare — are more evenly distributed.
Another thing — road courtesy and traffic culture in some countries are way calmer. Drivers seem to follow rules, respect others, avoid risky behaviors. For anyone who’s experienced chaotic traffic — like back home — that sense of order and respect on the road stands out.

And perhaps most quietly powerful: in societies where basic welfare, health, and services are more equal, there’s less pressure on social status or class as the main marker of identity. When people don’t have to fight tooth-and-nail just for survival, stuff like “what neighborhood you’re from,” “who your parents are,” or “how much money your family had” matter less in daily life. Sana all talaga.

So from where many of us stand now — outside the Philippines — it’s easy to see that if we could bring home even a bit of those values and systems: fair health care for all, social safety nets, decent public order, respect on the roads, less status-drama, more real opportunity… life might be kinder, simpler, more human. Sana all, no?
