Many healthcare professionals hold the misconception that if a patient has a DVT, you can’t do very much with them! You might dislodge the blood clot! But what is the best treatment for DVT? Research supports using strong compression to help treat DVT in the acute phase and compression and MLD in the chronic phase. Who knew?? The bottom line is, we don’t want to allow swelling to persist in patients with DVT, as this will cause a whole host of other negative issues… including post-thrombotic syndrome!
