Can Upscaling Fix Input Lag? How About Frame Generation?

Can upscaling actually reduce input lag? Or does it just make your game look prettier?
When you enable upscaling like DLSS, FSR, or XeSS, the GPU renders at a lower resolution and then upscales the image to look sharper.
That means the GPU does less work per frame — so yes, it can reduce input lag a little, especially if your FPS goes up.
But if your game already runs fast, the AI upscaling step adds a tiny bit of latency.
So in low-FPS scenarios, it helps. In high-FPS ones, it might add 1–3 ms of delay, which most players won’t even notice.
Now, frame generation like DLSS or FSR is a different story.
It creates fake frames between real ones, doubling FPS… but those aren’t real inputs.
So your screen looks smoother, but your input lag stays the same, but most of the time, even worse.
