Brightlingsea has a proud maritime past. Once known for shipbuilding and oyster fishing, it was a Roman settlement and later became part of the historic Cinque Ports. Today, the town’s busy marina is a popular spot for sailing and coastal views, with boats coming and going along the Colne Estuary.
We pass by Brightlingsea Lido, a seawater pool that opened in 1932 and has been a favourite summer spot for generations. Nearby is the peaceful boating lake, where families enjoy model boats and gentle waterside walks. We also stop at the local skatepark and the Yachtsman’s Arms pub, a great place to enjoy a drink near the sea.
