Capital Peach (Pêche capitale) holds a special place for us, not just as our first short film, but as a deeply personal project. In the summer of 2024, while visiting our grandparents in northern Greece, my sister and I decided to create a short film centered on the peach harvest, a tradition that defines the region. Each night, we worked on the script, drawing inspiration from the films we watched, the stories we had written throughout our lives, and the people around us.
Thanks to the generosity of the kind-hearted people we met, we were able to engage with peach field workers, gaining insights into their craft and the rhythm of their daily lives. With no budget and no professional equipment, we wanted this story to be somewhere between documentary and fiction, so we could embrace a raw, independent approach to filmmaking. The entire film was shot and edited on a phone, while Eva composed and produced the original score, ensuring that every element of the project remained deeply connected to our vision.
This film means so much to us because it embodies a spirit of homegrown creativity. We completed it with the support of our grandparents and our village, making it a true reflection of our roots and the bond we share as sisters. Fueled by respect and passion, Capital Peach stands as an authentic representation of our artistic values, an ode to storytelling beyond technical means, where emotion, culture, and philosophy take center stage.
This short film was produced as part of the ARTE competition “Et pourtant elles tournent”, was selected at the WIFT Festival in Nicosia, and won the award for Best Debut Short Film at the AIMAF Festival in Athens in 2025.
