What do I want to highlight about this wave? Something that represents a significant danger in the break of the world’s biggest waves: the white water or foam trails on the wave walls. This is an added challenge for big wave surfers. Carving a line that takes you over these white water trails often results in an imminent fall.

At speeds over 70 kilometers per hour, the fins lose the necessary grip, making it almost impossible to maintain stability. At that speed, a fall can be like hitting a solid surface—a blow to the back can knock the wind out of you for several seconds, and a hit to the head can cause disorientation or even unconsciousness.
