In the 1950's, Chuck Dederich started his own drug rehab group called Synanon, and even though he had some unorthodox methods, he was widely praised. Over the years, Chuck rebranded as an experimental society. And eventually, Chuck was being looked at as the group's supreme leader and Synanon was no longer recognizable. It was a cult.

In Part 1, we're talking about the early days of Synanon and the weird and cruel psychological tactics Chuck used to test his followers loyalty.
