Описание: Scott builds a box newel for a new stair case using left-over plywood and solid oak edging. The box newel will cover a structural lumber post under the landing. The box is built without any nails or mechanical joinery. Oak hardwood edging is glued and clamped to the oak plywood using a stackable bench clamp gifted by R&R Clamp (www.rrclamp.com). Scott has been using an older version of the clamp system for over 30 years with great success. Once this step is complete, Scott uses a Festool Domino XL 700 to assemble the three-sided box newel in the work shop. It is sanded with a Festool sander using a technique that combines the sawdust and fresh glue to form a nearly invisible joint. The corners of the box newel are eased with a Veritas hand plane, then stained and varnished. On the job site the box newel is slipped over the structural support and the fourth side of the box is tacked on with a pin nailer.
