Russia’s Long March to War, Part II

President Obama has vowed to retaliate against Russia for hacking the U.S. presidential election. He says it will be at a time and place of his choosing. But he has only 31 days left in office.

Vladimir Putin, still not admitting culpability, could deem Obama’s retaliation as an act of war, leaving Russia no choice but to mount a fierce counter-attack.

Donald Trump has named Putin-friendly Rex Tillerson for Secretary of State, the only candidate positioned to ease tensions. But hawkish Republicans and Democrats in Congress, led by John McCain and Chuck Schumer, are gearing up for a major bipartisan battle to block his nomination or preempt a deal with Putin.

What’s most concerning, however, is that none of these players are talking about the single most dangerous aspect of this conflict. Not Obama, not Putin, not Trump, not even doves in Congress! But I am.
