Phoenix man, Sergio Moreno Moran, required the amputation of his right arm after a dormant case of Valley Fever was activated by a wrist injury and subsequent surgery.
The fungal infection, previously unknown in his body, spread rapidly, resisting multiple attempts to contain it surgically.
Although the amputation is a significant change, Moran's wife, Jennifer Pena Moreno, said she was relieved that the years of painful uncertainty over his health may finally be over.
